We Need Child Care To Work - Join the Campaign
Following up on the popularity of our first 'We need child care to work' postcard campaign to Premier Campbell, we now have two new postcards to send to candidates and party leaders in the lead-up to the provincial election on May 12.
Child care in BC is not working. Fees can cost more than a post-secondary education. Waiting lists at some centres are years long. And child care workers' wages often fall below the poverty line.
Join the Advocacy Forum in sending a message to Gordon Campbell and Carole James that this is not acceptable - we need child care in BC to work!
The Advocacy Forum has two new postcards with this message. We will send you postcards - we just ask that you use them all.
- Email us at postcards@advocacyforum.bc.ca with the number of postcards you can use and your name and mailing address
- As soon as they arrive – get the postcards out to your community.
- Make it easy for others by collecting and delivering signed postcards.
There are 3 ways to deliver the postcards:
- Hand deliver the signed cards to the local offices of the Liberal and NDP candidates in YOUR riding. Send half of the cards to the Liberal candidate and the other half to the NDP candidate. Ask for a promise that they will send the cards on to their party's leader. If you can't get to the offices - mail them in with the same message.
- Present a bundle of signed cards at an All Candidates' meeting or other election event in your riding. When you get up to ask a child care question - let the candidates know how many signed postcards you have. Be sure to ask them for a promise that they will deliver the postcards to their party's leader.
- If you can't find a way to deliver the cards in your own riding - mail them back to the Child Care Advocacy Forum: 2772 East Broadway, Vancouver BC V5M 1Y8
We will send half on to Gordon Campbell and half to Carol James.
Act now – together we can make a difference.
